Summary: | The historical interpretation of the New Testament is an important theme in Willem Vorster's publications. In an attempt to argue that due his embeddedness in the theorical slipstream of New Criticism and its successors in reader response criticism, Vorster never really grasped the full umplications of either the historical distance of the New Testament documents of the construing of these test in their pastness, at least three aspects are treated in this study: (1) what Vorster thinks historical interpretation of the New Testament is about; (2) which theoretical approach shapes his viewpoints; and (3) what some of the shortcomings of such a definition of historical interpretation are. |
