Summary: | The fragmentary hypothesis in the case of 2 Corinthians is founded upon a particular and problematic notion of communicative dynamics. However, rhetorical practice allows for complexity in intentionality, audiences, topoi, pathos and dispositio. Consequently, a. 're-discovered and re-invented rhetoric is proposed which offers a model which can make sense of the complexity of the argumentation within the letter without having to pose a complex solution of multiple, individual sources later pieced together. Argumentational development and multiple inventional trajectories can explain the dynamics of the correspondence as a whole. |
