Summary: | The paper examines questions of authority and context in biblical interpretation from a feminist perspective. In a first section, the notion of 'feminist' biblical interpretation is discussed, with reference to well-known examples. In a second section, a brief account is given of papers presented in the SBL Bible in Africa, Asia and Latin America Group (1990-1993). Building on these considerations, two questions fundamental to feminist interpretation, namely 'whose text?' and 'what authority?' are addressed in sections three and four. |
