Description
Summary:Parallel passages in the Lectura Prima, one of the earliest Commentaries on the Sentences by Duns Scotus, and in the Ordinatio, Scotus' most mature Commentary on the Sentences, are compared. The points at issue are the adequacy of Henry of Ghent's defence of the need for a special divine illumination, and the adequacy of the critique leveled by Scotus against Henry's views. The thesis of the article is that in many cases Henry of Ghent would have had little difficulty turning aside the critique.
