| Summary: | The notions of metamorphosis (Pic de la Mirandole) and of vicissitude (Giordano Bruno), typical of Renaissance thought, betray a working of form at the heart of matter, but without knowing whether it is to be credited to a creative spirit or to an engendering nature. One hesitates between the primacy of the Logos, the form of forms, and of Earth-Mother. The homology between mental and natural processes pleads in favour of the two powers being convertible, not in opposition as might have been believed. When a single law of development presides in the cases of thought, crystals, plants and organisms, the inter-expression of nature and Spirit reopens metaphysical inquiry. RésuméSignatures de la pensée de la Renaissance, les notions de métamorphose (Jean Pic de la Mirandole) et de vicissitude (Giordano Bruno) trahissent un travail de la forme au sein de la matière, dont on ne sait si on doit l’imputer à un esprit créateur ou à une nature génératrice. On balance entre la primauté du Logos, forme des formes, et celle de la Terre-mère. L’homologie cependant entre procédures mentales et processus naturels témoigne d’une convertibilité entre les deux puissances, qu’on aurait cru concurrentes. Quand une même loi de développement préside aux pensées, aux cristaux, aux plantes et aux organismes, l’entre’expression de la nature et de l’Esprit relance l’interrogation métaphysique. |
