Summary: | While René Char was an absolutely irreligious man, certain texts and attitudes of his led Paul Veyne to attribute to him the quality of « atheist mystic » in his book René Char en ses poèmes, and to underscore his dependence on Theresa of Avila. These two are the points the present paper endeavors to corroborate in referring to Char’s texts as accurately as possible. |
