| Summary: | In 1801 Hegel presents his doctoral dissertation on the planetary orbits where he subjects to a detailed critique the bases of Newtonian physics. Commentators have since noticed Hegel’s blunders in his analysis of Newton. But if in 1801 the German philosopher is wrong for so wanting to be judged according to the criteria of the positive sciences, we in our time would be wrong to seek to judge him only according to these criteria. Hegel and Newton are after two different things. Thus we must address the misunderstandings that would lead to confining philosophy to the sole task of epistemology. RésuméHegel présente en 1801 sa Dissertation doctorale sur Les orbites des planètes, où il critique de façon détaillée les bases de la physique newtonienne. Les commentateurs ont repéré, depuis, les « bévues » de Hegel dans son analyse de Newton. Mais si le philosophe allemand a, en 1801, le tort de vouloir être jugé aussi en fonction des critères des sciences positives, nous aurions tort aujourd’hui de ne vouloir le juger qu’en fonction de ces critères. Hegel cherche autre chose que Newton. Il faut ainsi relever les malentendus qui amèneraient à cantonner la philosophie à la seule tâche épistémologique. |
