| Summary: | For 50 years philosophers formed in the British analytical tradition have sought to learn from Thomas Aquinas (E. Anscombe, P. Geach, A. Kenny, P. Foot), mainly as an aid to overcoming Cartesian epistemology and to developing virtue ethics. More recently, Haldane has inaugurated a programme of « analytical Thomism » : the chief result of which so far is his « mind/world identity theory ». None of these admirers of Thomas has as yet found a way of assimilating his metaphysics of being. RésuméDepuis une cinquantaine d’années, les philosophes de la tradition analytique anglo-saxonne (E. Anscombe, P. Geach, A. Kenny, P. Foot) ont cherché à se mettre à l’école de Thomas d’Aquin, qu’ils utilisent avant tout comme ressource pour surmonter l’épistémologie cartésienne et développer une éthique de la vertu. Plus récemment, J. Haldane a inauguré un programme de « thomisme analytique », dont le principal résultat jusqu’à présent a été sa « théorie de l’identité esprit/monde ». Toutefois, aucun de ces admirateurs de Thomas n’a encore trouvé moyen d’assimiler sa métaphysique de l’être. |
