L'avènement du christianisme comme religion d'Étal a obligé la théologie païenne à se constituer comme une science, et comme une théologie platonicienne. Il devint alors possible à la théologie chrétienne d'emprunter des éléments à cette construction. C'est ce qui est arrivé avec le néoplatonisme et avec Proclus, et le Pseudo-Denys doit être considéré comme le premier qui ait élaboré, à l'aide de la théologie proclienne, une théologie comme science dans le christianisme. For as long as pagan theology was formulated in terms borrowed from Greek mythology, it could not but be disregarded by Christian theologians. On the Christian side, one was more busy finding a justification for Christians' presence in the world and then building up a theology that applied the allegorical method to Holy Scripture. When Christianity became the State religion, pagan theology was obliged to change, to constitute itself into a science, and a Platonic theology. It then became possible for Christian theology to borrow elements from such a theology, which is what happened with the full development of neoplalonism at Proclus' school in Athens, while Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite is to be considered as the first in Christianity to elaborate a theology as science according to Procleian theology. | ||
