Son but est autre: restituer cette œuvre à son contexte en suivant le parcours heurté qui fut celui du père Congar au cours du XXe siècle: formation marquée par le Saulchoir, jusqu'en 1931; première notoriété de belles années 1930; épreuve de la captivité en Allemagne; nouvelle période faste des lendemains de Libération; épreuve de la suspicion et de la mise à l'écart (1954-1960); divine surprise conciliaire; lutte contre la maladie sans fermeture au monde ambiant. Ce parcours apparaît tout à la fois très personnel et très éclairant sur les conditions du travail théologique dans l'Église catholique depuis près d'un siècle. This text follows the lecture given in Paris on 19 January 1995 at the request of Cardinal Congar's brethren. It does not add anything to a critical knowledge of the theologian's work. Its aim is different: to re-position this work in its context, while following Père Congar's uneven itinerary throughout the 20th century: his training at Le Saulchoir until 1931; his first golden years of fame in the 30's ; the ordeal of captivity in Germany; a new period of prominence after the liberation of France; the ordeal of suspicion and exile (1954-1960); the blissful surprise of the Second Vatican Council; his fight against illness while remaining open to the outside world. This itinerary is both very personal and very revealing as to conditions of theological work within the Catholic Church in the last hundred years. |
