The Spiritual Canticle of John of the Cross, reasonably founded on the theology of Saint Thomas Aquinas, signifies that in the end the words of divine knowledge merge in murmuring and silence. Thus defying theology, poetry is the space where the experience of the inexpressible beauty of the divine unfolds itself and restores the virtuality of the tie between the divine and the human. In this way John integrates into his own experience the intense intuition of Saint Augustine at the moment of his conversion in the garden of Milan. |
