L'examen attentif de trois textes d'époques différentes conduit aux résultats suivants : le dernier en date montre que l'auteur garde toujours dans sa pensée les deux modèles d'analogie dénommés plus tard analogie d'attribution et analogie de proportionnalité ; entre les deux premiers textes se produit un renversement spectaculaire manifestant la prise de conscience d'une forte distance entre certains traits essentiels de l'analogie d'attribution, finalement seule retenue, et la condition réelle des noms divins. Le secret de la pensée de S. Thomas en matière de noms divins est à chercher dans la manière dont nous percevons ce que l'auteur appelle les m perfections » qui « descendent » de Dieu dans les créatures. Some statistical and editorial comments seem at first sight to indicate that reasoning by analogy did not occupy a very prominent place in the thinking of St. Thomas. However, a careful study of three of his texts, written at different periods, leads to the following conclusions. The latest in date shows that St. Thomas kept constantly in mind the two types of reasoning by analogy which have since been called analogy of attribution and analogy of proportionality. Between the two earlier texts there is a striking change of interpretation, evidencing an intervening awareness of a wide difference between certain essential aspects of analogy of attribution (this being the only type finally retained) on the one hand and real divine names on the other. The secret of the thinking of St. Thomas about divine names is to be found in the way we perceive what he calls "perfections", which "descend" from God to created beings. |
