Afin de montrer qu'il n'en est rien, l'A. analyse un court passage de la Théologie mystique, l'opuscule qui paratt insister le plus sur la négation : chez ce penseur de la foi, les négations sont autant à dépasser que les affirmations. Le « troisième pas », dit de suréminence, est analysé selon ses trois aspects : 1. la correction de la négation, reconnue selon la transcendance et non pas selon la privation; 2. le redoublement de cette même négation, négation et transcendance demeurant insuffisantes dans le discours de l'homme; 3. la coïncidence des opposés, affirmation et négation s'unissant au-delà d'elles-mêmes. L'arlicle s'achève sur l'interprétation christologique d'un tel mouvement de pensée. In the work of Denys the Areopagite, is negation the final word, as many theologians, especially protestants, still believe? To show that this is not the case, the A. analyses a short extract from Mystical Theology, the pamphlet which most seems to insist on negation; in the view of this thoughtful man of faith, negations need be taken no more seriously than affirmations. The "third stage", said to be the most important, is analysed as having three aspects: (1) the rightness of negation, if seen in the context of transcendency rather than of deprivation; (2) the reiteration of this same negation, negation and transcendency remaining inadequate in the discourse of man; and (3) the coincidence of opposites (affirmation and negation) which come together on the farther side. The article ends with a Christological interpretation of such a train of thought. |
