Après avoir loué les inlassables investigations menées par R. É. et J. L. pour retrouver les pièces chromaciennes transmises sous d'autres noms, l'A. tente de juger par le détail l'édition des Sermons, puis celle des Tractatus, inédits pour les deux tiers : il indique, en donnant ses raisons, les corrections qui lui semblent superflues et discute les hésitations des éditeurs. Il relève enfin l'intérêt de la liste des fontes et de l'index uerborum, et souligne la valeur d'une édition permettant une étude précise de la catéchèse et de l'exégèse d'un pasteur vers l'an 400. Having praised the tireless investigations carried out by R. E. and J. L. in recovering the fragments of Chromatius which had come down to us under other names, the author attempts a detailed assessment of the edition of the Sermons, then of thai of the Tractatus, of which two thirds remain unedited. He points out, stating his reasons, the corrections which seem to him unnecessary and he draws attention to the interest attaching to the list of sources and the « index verborum », and he emphasises the value of an edition which now presents the opportunity for an exact study of the catechesis and exegesis of a bishop living around the year 400. |
