Reading of the De unitate intellectus contra Averroistas of St. Thomas Aquinas. The article sums up, firstly, the position of Averroes, commentator on Aristotle, concerning the intellect: immaterial, it cannot be individualised, it is common to all and is thus one and unique. Then it details the objections, philosophers, summoned up by St. Thomas to counter these positions which contradict the Catholic doctrine of personal immortality. |
