Thomas a appliqué ces principes d'interprétation aux formules grecque ou latine exprimant la procession du Saint-Esprit. Il a ainsi mis en œuvre ce qu'on peut appeler le « principe d'équivalence ». Même une formule erronée peut recouvrir une intention vraie. Il g a quelque chose à recevoir de celui qui ne pense pas comme nous. Thomas Aquinas (✝ 1274) was very careful to ascertain what an author wished to say, his « intentio » : a statement only reveals its true meaning if one knows the context, the problematic, and the range of the vocabulary which is used. Thomas applied these principles of interpretation to the greek or latin formulas used to express the procession of the Holy Spirit. Thus he used what could be called the 'principle of equivalence'. Even an erroneous formula can conceal a right intention. There is something to be received from someone who does not think as we do. |
