| Summary: | This brief article focuses on four previously neglected letters from Andreas Birch to Charles Godfrey Woide, concerning his request for the Bentley collation of Codex Vaticanus. A detailed analysis of these letters shows that between 1785 and 1787 Birch requested a copy of the collation from Woide, containing a considerable portion of the gospels. It also offers better historical grounds for understanding the making of the first printed collation of Vaticanus in Birch’s Quatuor Evangelia Graece. In addition, a transcription of all the letters is included, in order to facilitate further research into eighteenth-century European scholarly network Dieser kurze Artikel konzentriert sich auf vier bisher unbeachtete Briefe von Andreas Birch an Charles Godfrey Woide, die seine Bitte um die Bentley-Kollation des Codex Vaticanus betreffen. Eine detaillierte Analyse dieser Briefe zeigt, dass Birch zwischen 1785 und 1787 von Woide eine Kopie der Kollation anforderte, die einen beträchtlichen Teil der Evangelien enthält. Sie bietet auch eine sichere historische Grundlage für das Verständnis der Entstehung der ersten gedruckten Kollation des Vaticanus in Birchs Quatuor Evangelia Graece. Darüber hinaus ist eine Transkription aller Briefe enthalten, um weitere Forschungen der europäischen Gelehrtengemeinschaft im 18. Jahrhundert zu erleichtern. |
