Description
Summary:This paper examines the relative influence of religious socialization, personal community relationships, and demographic characteristics on religious belief and commitment. Findings indicate that personal community relationships have the strongest direct influence on belief and commitment, but that religious socialization and demographic characteristics influence religious belief and commitment indirectly because they influence personal community relationships. Religious socialization is important not only because it provides the individual with a world view, but because it channels individuals into personal communities that sustain a particular world view through the adult years.
