| Summary: | Earlier research indicates that declining religiousness across the adolescent period may be more pronounced for some groups than for others. In the present study a national sample of 1121 adolescents were analyzed to determine the extent to which gender and denomination interacted with age in affecting both religious practice and religious orthodoxy. While gender did not interact with age in affecting either of these religious dimensions, denomination interacted with age in affecting both. Further, gender and deonomination interacted with one another in affecting both practice and orthodoxy. Since each of these interactions involve different denominational contrasts, the task of explaining the decline of religiousness over the adolescent period is shown to be more complicated than previous literature would suggest. |
