The study of the absolute infinitive found in the work of Ben Sira and also in the Qumran documents shows that: 1) the emphatic meaning is still very much alive in Ben Sira's writing but tends to disappear in Qumran, 2) the verbal, nominative and adverbial meanings are used by both nearly as frequently as in Old Testament Hebrew. |
