Dans cette perspective, je voudrais, une nouvelle fois, regarder le principe directeur : brevior lectio probabilior, « une leçon plus courte est à préférer à une leçon plus verbeuse » , parce qu'elle est plus vraisemblable. D'abord, je passerai en revue quelques auteurs qui ont traité de ce principe. Comme on le verra, il y a des éléments subjectifs dans leurs présentations. Ensuite, je prendrai Mt 6,33 comme exemple pour montrer comment on peut procéder plus objectivement. As in all disciplines that claim to be scientific, sound methodology is of extreme importance in the textual criticism of the New Testament. In this perspective I want to return once again to the directing principle brevior lectio probabilior, "a shorter reading is to be preferred to a longer reading", because it is a more probable reading. First, I shall examine the way that a number of authors have used this principle. It will become clear that their employment was compromised by a certain subjectivity. Then, I will demonstrate on the basis of Matthew 6,33 how the principle can be applied more objectively. |
