Summary: | Absalom, the uncle and father in law of Aristobulos II, can be identified as a maternal uncle, and therefore as a kin of Shimon ben Shetah and as a prominent member of the scholarly community of the Temple. Under a tentative premise that the House of Absalom in Pesher Habbakuk refers to Absalom of Josephus one can interpret the foundation of Qumran community as an outcome of a dispute in the community of Temple scholars, focused on the meaning and dates of a historical cycle on the eve of the Roman conquest. |
