Description
Summary:Justinian (527-565) had a large church erected on Mt. Berenice, which rises 200 m. above the Sea of Galilee, in order to declare the triumph of Christianity in the region. The site of the church determined the line of the Byzantine city wall. A large Bronze Age anchor-shaped cult stone was given a new meaning and interred beneath the altar. It was the "relic" that attracted pilgrims.
