Description
Summary:This study has two parts. The first, using philological, literary and historical criticism, shows that expiation, understood as the complete system of the Priestly Document (Ps ), is later than the primitive form of this Document (Pg) and, in any case, not earlier than the exile. The second part is a test of these results, based on a discussion of the thesis of I. Knohl, and precisely on the specific point of the feast of Expiation. Knohl defends the priority of the calendar of Num 28 f., as pre-exilic, over that of Lev 23. Our study disproves this thesis and confirms the exilic dating of Ps (and the post-exilic dating of the final redaction : Pss), against recent opinions which prefer to date the entire redaction of the Priestly Document to the late post-exilic period.
