| Summary: | A characteristic of ritual is the use of analogy, i.e., the manipulation of materials or reference to phenomena which are not directly or causally part of the immediate ritual concern. The Psalms, being for the most part ritual texts of some sort, display analogy, mainly in the form of metaphor and simile. This paper undertakes an "analogical analysis" of Psalm 58. It shows that the analogical forms display patterning in which there is an increase in complexity of form in the various sections of the psalm. It also describes the significance of the analogical forms in relationship to one another, particularly those that depict transformation of evil in the petition vis-à-vis those that describe the preexisting state of evil in the complaint. Une caractéristique du rituel est l'emploi de l'analogie, c'est-à-dire la manipulation de matériaux ou l'allusion à des phénomènes qui ne font pas directement partie du rite. Les Psaumes, qui sont principalement des textes rituels, témoignent de l'analogie, surtout sous la forme de la métaphore ou de la comparaison. Cette étude est une "analyse analogique" du Ps. 58. Elle démontre que les formes analogiques révèlent une structure dans laquelle il y a un accroissement dans la complexité des formes dans les différentes sections du psaume. Elle décrit aussi la signification des formes analogiques dans leur rapport l'une à l'autre, particulièrement celles qui dépeignent la transformation du mal vis-à-vis celles qui dépeignent l'état préexistant du mal. |
