The fragment of an aramaic stela found at Dan is of a peculiar importance because it brings to light the name of the author, the son of Bar Hadad (I) of Damascus opposed to the coalition of the Omrid dynasty and "the House of David". A very close reading of the written remains reveals the existence of a territorial conflict between Damascus and Israel from Omri until the successors of Ahab who was killed by Bar Hadad (II). This interpretation of very incomplete lines, which fits perfectly with the archaeological and palaeographical dating, corresponds with the data of 1 K 15 to 2 8. Consequently, it makes a contribution of the first rank to the exegesis, which is not without relevance for the study of these biblical chapters in the second half of the twentieth century. |
