Description
Summary:The Divine names and titles in Amos are carefully arranged throughout the text to emphasize that Yahweh is the God of Hosts and vice-versa. The conclusion has important implications not only for the theme of the book (the identification and invocation of the Deity) but also for the following matters: a) the importance of a text-oriented method for interpretation; b) the structure of the book (1:1-2:16, 3-6, 7:1-9:6, 9:7-15); c) the study of the doxologies (not extraneous); d) the possible theurgic function of the Divine name (cf. 6:10) and the dating of the book (early).
