Summary: | Traditional and recent interpretations of the parable of the unjust steward fail to convince largely because they see in the parable an exhortation about appropriate human response to Jesus. Rather, the parable belongs with those which defend and explicate Jesus' own behaviour, his authority and his confidence in vindicaton. It is to be read in the light of the opposition he faced from those who objected to him as a rogue, a would-be servant of God, who operated without proper authority in offering acceptance and forgiveness to sinners. |
