La présence potentiellement maléfique de certaines formes de fongosités (salpêtres) dans l'Orient ancien est attestée dans des prescriptions rituelles aussi bien en Israël qu'en Mésopotamie. La comparaison de textes de ces deux civilisations souligne de relatives discontinuités dans la réponse à ce phénomène.
