Il semble qu'on puisse distinguer deux états du texte : un texte court, en hébreu (incomplet) ou en traductions, et un texte long, avec des modifications et des additions variées. Or l'Église ancienne, comme les traducteurs catholiques modernes, ont admis aussi bien le texte long que le texte court. S'il veut être fidèle au concile de Trente, un catholique peut difficilement exclure du canon le texte long. Rien ne s'oppose à ce qu'il reconnaisse la canonicité et l'inspiration des deux états du texte. The book of Ben Sira has been preserved in different languages and text types. Two basic text types can be distinguished: a shorter text, in Hebrew (incomplete) and in some ancient versions, and a longer text, which includes some modifications and additions. The early church, as well as modern Catholic Bible translations, have used and thus given canonical recognition to both text types, shorter and longer. A Catholic who would be faithful to the decrees of Trent could hardly exclude the longer text since it enjoyed predominance for a long time. But there is no objection, it is here suggested, to recognizing both text types, the shorter and the longer, as canonical and inspired. |
