Description
Summary:For the analysis of ethnic relations the concept of "impact" is proposed instead of assimilation or acculturation in that it carries with it a connotation of collision and forced intanglement. The "impact" of Italians and American Catholicism is discussed with a consideration of the adjustive responses of the Italian migrants. It is hypothesized that out of a negative aspect of the impact comes a positive Italian influence on American Catholicism.
