Summary: | Following Parson's distinction between cultural and social systems, a tentative model of assimilation which distinguishes social and cultural assimilation is proposed. This model is tested in an analysis of Puerto Rican migrants to New York City. Both the analytical and empirical data seem to reveal a basis for maintaining that social and cultural assimilation are, to a degree, independent processes. |
