Description
Summary:In Building Strong Church Communities, Wittberg's purpose is to help religious groups—mainly Catholic churches, religious orders, and lay movements—foster community. She states that the argument of the book is “that it is vitally necessary for the Church to foster, develop and extend its communal dimension … because only within Church communities can we truly find and live out our faith” (6). The book is clearly directed toward practitioners, so I will attempt to evaluate it from that perspective (although I am not Catholic). There is plenty here that will interest researchers and non-Catholics as well, as I note below., The book begins by defining community and discussing the possible stumbling blocks to community, like individualism and bureaucracy.
