Summary: | What role does religion play in cultural understandings of the family? What role does the evolution of cultural understandings of the family have on religious structures? Recognizing the symbiotic relationship between religion and cultural understandings of the family, Edgell explores the interweaving of these two significant social functions. Her study takes place in upstate New York, where she examined the local practices and rhetorics of parishioners of local congregations (Protestant and Catholic) in four distinct communities, differing in socioeconomics and population. |
