Through the encounter between two women, Naomi and Ruth, a profound reflection on the relationship between Israel and foreign nations is played out. Paradoxically, the permanence of Israel in its own land is made possible by the Moabite woman. This paradox is explained and justified throughout the book of Ruth by an original interpretation of the Law, using the notion of hesed. |
