| Σύνοψη: | En este trabajo abordamos la figura de la mística sor Beatriz María de Jesús (1632-1702), monja clarisa del convento del Santo Ángel Custodio de Granada, a través del estudio crítico de su biografía, escrita por fray Tomás de Montalvo. Se presta especial atención a su relación con la autoridad episcopal granadina, censora por inercia de cualquier clase de escándalo y siempre recelosa ante la manifestación de carismas místicos extraordinarios. Así, se investiga la causa de su progresivo reconocimiento por parte de la jerarquía eclesiástica y de su fulgurante éxito entre la sociedad granadina de la segunda mitad del siglo XVII. This paper attempts to address Beatriz María de Jesús’s life (1632-1702), a Poor Clare nun of the Santo Ángel Custodio’s Convent in Granada, through the critical study of her biography, written by fray Tomás de Montalvo. It pays special attention to her relationship with the episcopal authority of Granada, who was always ready to censor any kind of scandal and who distrusted the manifestation of extraordinary mystical phenomenons. Thus, it is investigated here the reasoning behind her progressive recognition by the ecclesiastical hierarchy and her great success within Granadian society during the second half of the seventeenth century. |
