| Summary: | The hymn “Wer nur den lieben Gott läßt walten” ("Who only will let the good God do as he pleases") belongs to the most famous german hymns. The author has at old age himself reported on the development. This report is printed by this and annotated. In the time of the Thirty Years' War Neumark was wandering from Thüringen to the North of Germany, he was getting over several needs and composed in winter 1640/41 in Kiel this hymn. Later he became a respected author and was working organizationally for the "Fruchtbringende Gesellschaft". His hymn is an expression of thanks and confidence. While we in many cases, concerning the composers in the time about 1800 are well informed about the biographical situations, from which their compositions developed, we hardly ever know such facts concerning the composers of the 17. century. The report of G. Neumark is in this respect something apart. |
