Summary: | The article deals with a hymnbook described as lost in the DKL (1676²¹) but now rediscovered. It was produced in 1676 for the Court of Husum. Besides the interest to the bibliophile, the quality of the choice of the 406 texts and 149 tunes is particularly noteworthy. Maria Elisabeth, the daughter of an elector of Dresden and widow of the Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf, made the selection herself. Her taste had been refined in the tradition of the Court of Saxony and by the influence of the sacred music of H. Schütz in Dresden and F. Tunder in Gottorf. The Duchess found in he Court Preacher Petrus Petraeus a conscientious editor, who, in addition, included 14 hitherto unpublished hymns of his own. The hymnbook is a very good historical example of the influence of such important documents as the Dreßdenisch Gesangbuch (DKL 1656⁰³), H. Müller's Geistliche Seelenmusik (DKL²1668⁰⁷), and J. Crüger's Praxis pietatis melica. Beyond this, the report is able to reveal details of the religious life at the Court of Husum and supplies a witness to the influence of the Court of Dresden and its significance for German Protestantism even in the most northern principality. |
