Description
Summary:One single line of words of the hymn Nun lob, mein Seel, den Herren provided for a distinct example of what quite commonly happened to the work on hymns and the book of hymns in the course of more than four centuries. Besides serious studies and strivings towards the right comprehension there were precipitant interpretations, wanton modifications, amateurish remodellings, and various other sham solutions. Bunglers are apparent to often have worked at it, readily prepared to adjust the wording to the prevailing spirit of the age for the sake of easy intelligibility. Solely those who start working on the enlightenment of such a "dark spot" with sufficient scientific knowledge and conscienciousness, are capable of and entitled to relevant improvements or explanations.
