Description
Summary:In the Benedictine abbey of Munster (France), from the time of Reformation to the French Revolution, the ritual of the benedictio abbatis did not strictly follow the order ascribed by the Pontificale romanum. The liturgical ceremony was indeed interrupted twice by a mutual oath between the abbot and the Lutheran civil authorities. This ritual was also an opportunity for the abbot to display, at least symbolically, his dignity and power.
