Preserved in the University Library of Basle, Iselin’s correspondence reveals precious and hitherto unknown details about dom Calmet’s journey. | ||
| 520 | |a Au cours de l’été 1748, dom Augustin Calmet, fameux historien et exégète, se rendit en Suisse, sur les traces de dom Mabillon, afin de visiter de vénérables abbayes bénédictines (Muri, Saint-Gall, Einsiedeln, …) et de copier des manuscrits. Il en profita également pour rencontrer des personnalités locales, qui ne partageaient pas nécessairement ses convictions religieuses ; ainsi Johann Rudolf Iselin, professeur de droit à Bâle. Sa correspondance, conservée à la Bibliothèque publique et universitaire de cette ville, apporte des renseignements inédits et intéressants sur le voyage qu’avait entrepris dom Calmet. | ||
