Summary: | During the summer of 1748, dom Calmet, renowned Bible scholar and historian, travelled to Switzerland, in the steps of dom Mabillon, and in order to visit famous Benedictine monasteries (Muri, Sankt Gallen, Einsiedeln, …) and to gather documents. He also met local scholars, even if they stand on the other side of the confessional boundary ; for instance the law professor Johann Rudolf Iselin. Preserved in the University Library of Basle, Iselin’s correspondence reveals precious and hitherto unknown details about dom Calmet’s journey. |
