The following article analyzes a sermon written at Fossés abbey, probably in 1030, in order to establish that house as the true home of the cult of St Maurus, the first disciple of St. Benedict, over against competing claims by Glanfeuil and Cluny. The article approaches this issue by showing how this sermon, by revising its source, the 9th-century writings of Abbot Odo of Glanfeuil on St. Maurus, helped to establish Fossés’ claim. |
