| Summary: | Scholars increasingly dispute on the date of the musical treatise, that Aurelian of Réome composed for his abbot and future archbishop Bernard. This study maintains the year 849/850 because of the following reasons : 1) Bernard has to be identified with the Carolingian called Bern, who was assigned to bishop of Autun after Altheus. 2) No contemporary archbishop of Autun tried to gain the pallium before Altheus. 3) The very late list of abbots of Réome, though proving Autun, differs from correct chronology, obviously by eight years. 4) Aurelian does not depend on Heiric of Auxerre. 5) There is no need to suppose two or even more recensions. Aurelian‘s prologue to Bernard, Bernard‘s recommendation to the chanters, and Aurelian‘s epilogue to them are written in a rather quick succession. The final document, commonly thought to be a second epilogue, was Aurelian‘s covering letter to Bernard. Der Musiktraktat, den Aurelian von Réome für seinen Abt und Künftigen Erzbischof Bernard schrieb, wird zunehmend kontrovers datiert. Dagegen hält die Studie an 849/850 aus folgenden Gründen fest : 1) Bernard ist gleichzusetzen mit dem Karolinger Bern, der nach Altheus Bischof von Autun werden sollte. 2) Vor Altheus gab es keinen zeitgenössischen Erzbischof in Autun, der das Pallium zu erlangen suchte. 3) Die wesentlich jüngere Abtsliste von Réome, wiewohl Autun bestätigend, ist chronologisch unzuverlässig und scheint hier um acht Jahre verschoben. 4) Aurelian hängt nicht ab von Heiric von Auxerre. 5) Für die Annahme zweier oder gar mehrerer Redaktionen besteht kein Grund. Vielmehr wurden Aurelians Prolog an Bernard, Bernards Empfehlung an die Kantoren und Aurelians Epilog an dieselben in rascher Folge abgefasst, während der gern als zweiter Epilog angesehene Schluss ein persönliches Schreiben Aurelians war, das die Sendung des Traktats an Bernard begleitete. |
