On the other, it seeks to evaluate the intentions that led the Parisian master to introduce the controversial episode on Bede in his most famous work. Ultimately, it attempts to assess the overall documental significance to attribute to the words of Petrus Comestor. The Historia scholastica by the Parisian master Petrus Comestor preserves a singular testimony on the biography of Venerable Bede. The renowned monk had been separated from the community of his fellow monks due to his unacceptable beliefs regarding the star of the Magi. Bede believed the star of the Magi had fallen into a well in Bethlehem and that it had been seen by several virgins who had lived at the time of Paula and Eustochium. Dans cette contribution nous essayons d'une part de retracer les sources possibles de Pierre Comestor; d'autre part, nous essayons d'évaluer les intentions qui ont poussé le maître parisien à introduire dans son oeuvre la plus célèbre cet épisode controversé sur Bède. Enfin, nous tentons d'estimer la valeur documentaire globale que l'on peut attribuer aux paroles de Pierre Comestor. L'Historia scholastica du maître parisien Pierre Comestor conserve un témoignage singulier sur la biographie du Vénérable Bède : le célèbre moine anglais aurait été séparé de la communion de ses propres frères moines pendant une certaine période, à cause d'une croyance inacceptable sur l'étoile des Mages. Bède aurait cru que l'étoile des Mages était tombée dans un puits de Bethléem et qu'elle y avait été vue par quelques vierges qui vivaient au temps de Paula et d'Eustochium. Nel presente contributo, da un lato, si cercano di rintracciare le possibili fonti cui Pietro Comestor attinse; dall'altro lato, si provano a valutare gli intenti che hanno indotto il maestro parigino ad introdurre nella propria più celebre opera tale controverso episodio su Beda. Infine si tenta di valutare il complessivo rilievo documentale da potersi attribuire alle parole di Pietro Comestor. L'Historia scholastica del maestro parigino Pietro Comestor conserva una singolare testimonianza sulla biografia del Venerabile Beda: il celebre monaco inglese sarebbe stato per un periodo separato dalla comunione dei propri fratelli monaci a causa di una inaccettabile credenza sulla stella dei Magi. Beda avrebbe creduto che la stella dei Magi sarebbe caduta in un pozzo di Betlemme e che lì sarebbe stata ancora vista da alcune vergini, vissute al tempo di Paola ed Eustochio. |
