| Summary: | The author, currently Dean of the Official Social Work Board of Madrid, reflects on the complexity of the relationship between social work professionals involved in the practice of social work and academics who have to advance the theoretical and applied dimension of the discipline. Manuel Gil’s own biography is an attempt at synthesis between both worlds, that of practice and that of the University, based on the conviction shared with the author of this article that it is necessary to improve the quality of professional intervention, by means of a well-honed deontology as befits a liberal and board-certified profession as a way to achieve greater dignity of social work professionals and of the people who request their services. El autor, actualmente decano del Colegio Oficial de Trabajo Social de Madrid, reflexiona sobre la complejidad de la relación que se establece entre los profesionales del trabajo social implicados en la práctica del mismo y los académicos que han de hacer avanzar la dimensión teórica y aplicada de la disciplina. La propia biografía de Manuel Gil es un intento de síntesis entre ambos mundos, el de la práctica y el de la Universidad, desde la convicción compartida con el autor de este artículo de que es preciso dotar a la intervención profesional de mayor calidad, mediante una deontología bien afinada tal y como corresponde a una profesión liberal y obligatoriamente colegiada como vía para lograr una mayor dignificación de los profesionales del trabajo social y de las personas que solicitan sus servicios. |
