| Summary: | The aim of this paper is to deepen our knowledge about medical-legal translation, starting from the case of living wills or advance directives, a medical-legal genre which still remains widely unknown to most people. Therefore, we have carried out an analysis, from the point of view of Linguistics and Translation Studies, of a corpus of several advance directives from Spain, the U.K and the U.S, in order to identify their specific linguistic features and the translation problems arising from this text genre. Furthermore, we have also applied the methodology of Comparative Law in order to study and to compare the legislation regarding living wills in the three countries. El objetivo de este estudio es profundizar en el conocimiento de la traducción médico-jurídica a partir del caso concreto del testamento vital o documento de voluntades anticipadas, género médico-jurídico que continúa siendo un gran desconocido para la población y, además, se trata de un género médico-jurídico poco explorado en los estudios de traducción. Para ello, hemos realizado un análisis lingüístico y traductológico de un corpus de documentos de voluntades anticipadas procedentes de España, Reino Unido y Estados Unidos para identificar sus principales características lingüísticas y los problemas de traducción específicos que plantean. También se ha aplicado la metodología propia del Derecho comparado para estudiar y comparar la legislación relativa al testamento vital en los tres países. |
