Description
Summary:Commemoration can be classified in terms of all kinds of processes involving various time and content- related criteria. Indeed, memorizing one´s own history is one of the most important and, at the same time, most complex functions of the individual brain. Processes of commemoration also represent a foundation for all those who seek to understand their own environment and their own place within it. It is also how the human brain develops, mainly in its limbic structures and in parts of the frontal lobe which are concerned with memory. This is particularly true of episodic memory, which is influenced emotionally and related to our whole sense of ourselves. The relevance of these structures to this episodic memory can be demonstrated through modern, functional 'brain imaging'. In exploring the dynamic interaction between the brain and the memory we can also learn much from patients with memory disorders. At large, medical opinion now understands the human brain as a stable and, simultaneously, highly dynamic system which makes possible a continuing orientation in new situations on the basis of previous experience.
