| Summary: | This article seeks to show how, in the writing of history from Droysen to Kosellek, these authors have recognised that all historiography has been conditioned by various and lively concepts of how history ought to be written. Each attempt to construct a particular historical perspective is really the result of the author's own theoretical self-understanding of his or her own historical context. So it follows that a commitment to the Christian faith will be reflected in each author's formulation of his or her concepts of how history should be researched and written. If the result is a Christian-or theologically-oriented historiography, this should not be seen as an undue presumption, but rather as arising from the historian's critical assessment of his or her own personal position. |
