Description
Summary:Since the issuance of Pope Paul VI's encyclical "On priestly celibacy", the irreconcilable debates about abstinence and chastity as a rule of life for the Catholic secular priesthood have taken on new vigour, in contrast to the situation at the end of the 1960s and the 1970s when discussions on this issue - taking place mostly within the ranks of the clergy themselves - sought to find a compromise position and were marked by thoughtful and constructive arguments, especially from the side of the critics, as can be seen from an analysis of the various instructions, publications and discussion papers.
